Surprise! Organic Beekeepers Reporting Zero Losses

Surprise! Organic Beekeepers Reporting Zero Losses

By Michael d'Estries in Green Living, Pollution | May 11, 2007

With all the frightening news over bee losses throughout the world, it appears that one tiny minor piece of information was overlooked: the losses are occurring in colonies besieged with chemicals and artificial additives. Organic bees are fairing quite nicely, thank you. From the article,

"'I'm on an organic beekeeping list of about 1,000 people, mostly Americans, and no one in the organic beekeeping world, including commercial beekeepers, is reporting colony collapse on this list,' said Sharon Labchuck. 'The problem with the big commercial guys is that they put pesticides in their hives to fumigate for varroa mites, and they feed antibiotics to the bees. They also haul the hives by truck all over the place to make more money with pollination services, which stresses the colonies.'"

In our efforts to make larger bees that are resistant to more predators or diseases — have we crossed the line in how far we could go? As the article states, "Who should be surprised that the major media reports forget to tell us that the dying bees are actually hyper-bred varieties that we coax into a larger than normal body size? It sounds just like the beef industry. And, have we here a solution to the vanishing bee problem? Is it one that the CCD Working Group, or indeed, the scientific world at large, will support? Will media coverage affect government action in dealing with this issue?"

GONE MISSING: $250 BILLION in Venezuelan gold

GONE MISSING: $250 BILLION in Venezuelan gold -- The_Vet (), 01:15:54 11/16/08 Sun
However they seem to have confused grams and kilos, and "millions" seems to get reported as "billions" in Venezuela so just what's really missing is anyone's guess

2008-11-16 05:52:40 - Venezuelan CICPC police detectives investigating the theft of gold from the former Crystallex-owned Revemin facility in El Callao have modified an earlier CICPC statement claiming 4,000 kilos stolen to 4,000 grams (128.6 troy ounces) valued at some US$96,361 on world markets.

VHeadline Venezuela News reports:

The theft was discovered last Sunday, according to authorities who say they believe the robbery of gold from Revemin has been going on for years and could run to losses to the Venezuelan patrimony of between $100 and $250 billion all told.

Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) inspectors have visited the plant -- which was recently returned to State ownership under a deal with the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) gold mining subsidiary CVG-Minerven.

Police sources say even more gold can have been smuggled out of Revemin mixed in 20 kilo bags of cement to avoid detection.

Details are only now being made known because Mibam Minister Rodolfo Sanz has imposed a blanket ban on all statements to the media, other than those he makes himself, but it is understood that the "smuggling operation" is nothing new and had taken place at Revemin also behind the backs of Crystallex management.

Estimates of the total value of gold lost to Venezuelan patrimony at Revemin are imprecise but, over the last few years, could run to between $100 billion and $250 billion, possibly more.

Local media sources say that the smugglers operated under the cover of labor union problems at the facility and that organized crime 'mafias' were also involved in sabotage operations against Crystallex and other mining companies in the south of Bolivar State in a crudely run protection racket.

What were you told happened on 9/11?
Do you remember what you saw on September 11, 2001? Are you sure? We may know some of the stories, but what did we REALLY see? Examine video footage and photographs that people around the world are beginning to call the smoking gun that cracks 9/11 wide open.
Censorship or Cover-Up?
William Rodriguez, World Trade Center survivor and eyewitness, attempted to perform his civic duty by contacting the FBI with what he witnessed on September 11. He tells of a massive explosion in the sub-basement that threw him and his fleeing companions upwards! Rodriguez and 13 other eyewitnesses assert that the explosion took place before Flight 11 struck the upper floors. The failure of the 9/11 Commission
Why was William Rodriguez s eyewitness testimony stricken from the official 9/11 Commission Report? Why was it so important to censor this groundbreaking and easily confirmable information?

Flight Data Recorder Disputes Official Flight Path of Flight #77 If we examine the direction that Flight 77 took on its approach to the Pentagon, it immediately becomes clear that the flight path is slightly different from that of the official report. This may seem insignificant at first, but how do we account for light poles that were knocked down even though they were not directly in the path of Flight 77?

On further examination of the altitude data, it quickly becomes evident that at the moment of impact with the first four downed light poles, Flight 77 s altitude was too high - over 230 ft. If the plane in question did not hit these light poles, what actually brought them down?

Hamas fires long-range rockets at Israel Reuters

By Abed Shana

GAZA (Reuters) - Hamas Islamists fired long-range rockets at a
southern Israel city on Friday after an Israeli air strike on their
Gaza stronghold in the 11th day of skirmishes that threaten a
five-month-old truce.

The armed wing of the Islamist group said it fired five Grad rockets,
the longest-range weapon it has used against the Jewish state. Israel
said they hit Ashkelon, north of Gaza on the Mediterranean coast, with
no casualties.

Israel and Hamas blamed each other for the flare-up since November 4,
in which 12 Hamas militants have been killed by Israeli forces and
scores of rockets fired into Israel. But both shied away from
declaring an end to the Egyptian-brokered truce.

"We will continue to forcefully defend Israeli soldiers and citizens,
to thwart attempts to stage attacks when we discover them," Israeli
Defence Minister Ehud Barak said. "At the same time, if the other side
wants to continue the calm we will definitely give it positive
consideration."

Hamas took a similar stand.

"Up to this moment we are committed to the ceasefire," said Mahmoud
al-Zahar, a Hamas leader. "Self-defense and resistance" would
continue. "We are waiting for the Israelis. If they are really
committed (to a truce) we have to address that frankly."

The 1960s-era Soviet-made Grad rocket has a range of 25 km (15 miles).
Two of them struck Ashkelon.

Earlier, Palestinian medics said two Hamas fighters were wounded in an
Israeli air strike, which a military spokesman said was in response to
an earlier rocket attack.

After the air strike, Hamas said it fired eight shorter-range Qassam
rockets aimed at the city of Sderot.

Two Qassams hit, causing damage to buildings, an Israeli police
spokesman said. One Israeli was treated for shrapnel wounds and a
number of people suffered shock.

NEXT MOVE

Israel's caretaker prime minister, Ehud Olmert, said in a statement
after consultations with defense chiefs that Israel would not tolerate
the rocket fire. It would continue to apply economic pressure on Hamas
through border crossings.

Israel has not allowed humanitarian supplies into the Gaza Strip since
November 4, when its troops raided the territory to destroy what the
army described as a tunnel built by militants to kidnap Israeli
soldiers.

Six Hamas gunmen were killed in the raid. Militants responded to the
incursion with rocket salvoes.

Israel said the crossings would remain shut for now.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Israel to allow
urgently fuel and humanitarian aid into Gaza, where 750,000
Palestinians are in need of food.

Short of fuel, Gaza shut down its sole power plant, and rationed
electricity it gets from Israel and Egypt. Some Gaza bakeries posted
notices on Friday limiting the purchase of bread, although no major
shortages were reported.

The EU also urged Israel to let aid supplies through.

"I am profoundly concerned about the consequences for the Gazan
population of the complete closure of all Gaza crossings for
deliveries of fuel and basic humanitarian assistance," External
Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said.

Israeli troops also killed four gunmen in a raid on Wednesday,
prompting more rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza.

Hamas is in conflict with the Fatah faction of Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas which holds sway in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and
is negotiating with Israel on peace terms.

The rift between them widened in 2007 as Hamas took control of Gaza.
Egypt brokered the Israel-Hamas truce, but Palestinian unity talks it
is mediating faltered earlier this month.

Austrian Government Study Confirms Genetically Modified (GM) Crops Threaten Human Fertility and Health Safety

A long-term feeding study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for
Health and Food Safety, managed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of
Health, Family and Youth, and carried out by Veterinary University
Vienna, confirms genetically modified (GM) corn seriously affects
reproductive health in mice. Non-GMO advocates, who have warned about
this infertility link along with other health risks, now seek an
immediate ban of all GM foods and GM crops to protect the health of
humankind and the fertility of women around the world.

Kenneth Clarke, the former Conservative Chancellor warns Britain is on the brink of 'meltdown' and unemployment could reach three million.

Ken Clarke warns Britain is on the brink of 'meltdown'
Kenneth Clarke, the former Conservative Chancellor, has warned the
economy is on the brink of "meltdown" and unemployment could reach
three million.

By Rupert Neate and Robert Miller
Last Updated: 6:35PM GMT 12 Nov 2008

Mr Clarke, 68, said the British economy is headed for a "catastrophic
crisis" that will be "far worse than anything that has occurred in my
lifetime".

"There will be a very serious recession next year," he said in an
interview with Telegraph TV. "I think the big problem in 2009 will be
the catastrophic fall in consumer spending demand, spending in shops
will get worse."

Mr Clarke, who as Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1993 and 1997
led Britain's recovery from Black Wednesday, called for a temporary
cut in VAT to boost spending.

Speaking as the Office of National Statistics revealed unemployment
has reached an 11-year high of 1.82m, Mr Clarke said the number of
jobless could soon reach three million.

"It is going to go up a long way... whether we will get back to three
million again is one of those slightly morbid questions I really don't
know the answer to. But it could get pretty big," he said. Rising
unemployment will have a "devastating effect" on families and lead to
more people being unable to pay their mortgages, he said.

The former Chancellor said Gordon Brown has received undue credit for
his role in attempting to shore up the global economy. "The idea that
Gordon has saved the world is not true," he said. "We still have a
major, major crisis in this country and... public finances are in a
terrible mess".

Mr Clarke said the larger than expected 1.5 percentage point cut in
the base rate was a good move, but cautioned that it would not end the
crisis. "We had a big cut in interest rates, about which there was a
wholly exaggerated expectation, in the short term it will have modest
effects, if any. Long-term it will begin to have effects.

"We are not yet in a state where we can be absolutely certain we are
not going to have something close to meltdown next year", he said.
"You do have to see what can be done with taxes."

He cautioned that Britain has "mounting debt, which is unsustainable"
but said policymakers should bear in mind the effect a "full-blown
depression will have on public finances". Looking forward to the
Pre-Budget Report he said any fiscal stimulus package would have to
work in both the national interest and contribute to worldwide efforts
to stabilise the global economy.

Mr Clarke said the public can see the Prime Minister has got more
"confident" in his economic judgement, but said he imagines the
Treasury is being "driven crazy by the wild way" in which he and his
advisers spark speculation about the way the Government intends to
combat the financial crisis.

According to Mr Clarke, public respect for banks, which are "hated
institutions" at the best of times, has collapsed. He was also "very
concerned" that the Government could make the crisis worse by forcing
banks into "lending that they cannot afford".

"When I hear these stories of the Chancellor being presumably ordered
by the Prime Minister to get the banks in and waving newspaper
headlines at them I think that is no way of making policy," he said.

Admiral Mullen told the Israelis we need to coordinate closely, so we
don't have another mistake as happened with the USS Liberty.

Mon, 10 Nov 2008 01:54:10 +0100

You know, Admiral Mullen told the Israelis, in apparent connection
with their plans to bomb Iran, plans which the US military deeply
opposes if only for military reasons [It's not a recognizable military
strategy to occupy with all your land forces two large Muslim
countries with insurgencies running and then bomb the heck out of a
much larger third country that lies between them in order to see what
will happen], he told the Israelis we need to coordinate closely, so
we don't have another mistake as happened with the USS Liberty.

Now there is a masterful comment of caution. He doesn't say what the
mistake was. He knows the Israelis aren't going to ask him to
elaborate on that reference. He is however the Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, immediate past CNO, and he obviously remembers the
USS Liberty! How many ways can the "mistake" reference be interpreted?
If Israelis decide to fly without US approval, might they be shot down
because this time it's the Americans who might mistakenly think it
must be the Egyptians? Or was it a mistake to let the Israelis get
away with their treachery forty years ago, not to be repeated again,
not on my watch? Or was it the Israeli's self-described propensity to
accidentally shoot up the wrong place that is the mistake to be
avoided? Yeah, that must be it. Masterful!

China startled by force of crisis

By Michael Bristow
BBC News, Beijing

A group of Chinese migrant workers return home after they were laid off from factories in southern China's Guangdong province on Thursday
As industrial output drops, workers are being laid off

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says the effect of the global financial crisis on China is "worse than expected", according to reports.

It is the first time the premier's personal view on how the crisis is affecting China has been made public.

His words come days after the country announced a $586bn (£370bn) stimulus package to avoid the economy slowing.

China's growth rate is still high compared to other countries, but economic expansion slowed this year.

According to the state-run China Daily, Premier Wen gave his downbeat assessment to government staff at a briefing on Tuesday.

Slowing down

It shows how the fortunes of the world's fourth-largest economy have changed dramatically in a short space of time.

It is not long ago that China was introducing measures to cool down an economy that grew by 11.9% last year. But that figure fell to just 9% in the third quarter of this year due to a slowing of export and investment growth.

The governor of southern Guangdong Province, where many of China's factories are based, recently said that orders had fallen sharply this year. Many companies in the province have closed down, leaving thousands of people, mostly migrant workers, without jobs.

China's fear is that increasing unemployment will lead to social instability, as it did when many state-run firms were closed a decade ago.

To offset the slowdown, over the last few months China has introduced a range of measures to boost the economy, such as cutting interest rates.

But the sudden global financial crisis meant the government had to act further.

The 10-point stimulus plan will see the government loosen credit controls, spend more on infrastructure projects and cut taxes.

It also hopes to persuade Chinese shoppers to spend more.
